Joel Culpepper (born 26 May 1984) is a singer-songwriter from South East London.

Culpepper released his debut music project The Adventures of Pensmith (mix-tape) in 2009, which was written and produced in just two weeks.[1][citation needed]

In 2011, Culpepper released his second mix-tape, Joel Culpepper Meets J Dilla, a tribute project to the late J Dilla.[2] This generated considerable interest amongst bloggers and music fans, successfully showcasing Joel's strong song-writing skills and quirky vocal style.[citation needed]

2012 saw Culpepper release his debut EP Skydive,[3] a project that was well received by fans and critics alike,[citation needed] and the first single off the EP, Passenger, was championed by Annie Mac, DJ Target[4] and most recently Mistajam.[citation needed]

Culpepper often collaborates with and has featured on Swindle's album Long Live The Jazz,[5] and Bruh Jackman's California.[6]

Culpepper's most recent single Pilot Light was released on Monday 7 July 2014 alongside b-side Some Nights.[7] Culpepper was BBC introducing artist of the week during the month of June 2014.[8]

May 2015 saw Culpepper support Brit award winner Paloma Faith on her Australian tour.[9] Joel is also working on a new EP entitled 'Tortoise'[10] featuring production from the likes of Jimmy Hogarth,[11] Morgan Nicholls[12] and Roy Davis Jr.[13]
