Juliette Ashby is a singer-songwriter from London.

Early life and influences

Born in Southgate, London, Juliette Ashby is the daughter of WENN founder, Jonathan Ashby. Influenced as a child by the music of Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye and Country music star Bonnie Raitt,[1][2] Juliette wrote her first song entitled 'Place In My Heart' at the age of 7. Best friend of the late Amy Winehouse, the two friends met at Primary school at the age of 4. Soon after they were inseparable, they moved in a flat together at the age of 18 in East Finchley in 2002, as revealed in the 2015 documentary film that depicts Winehouse's life and death, Amy.[3]

Juliette's stepfather, Alan Glass - who's worked with a host of talented artists including Earth, Wind & Fire[4] actively encouraged Juliette to focus more on her vocal technique and songwriting ability after recognizing her talent early on. It was then that a young Juliette Ashby and Amy Winehouse created the duo group called "Sweet n Sour" (Juliette being the Sweet half)[5] and recorded their first track 'Spinderella' in reference to Spinderella, the 3rd arm of the rap group Salt n Pepa.

Music career

Juliette spends much of her time between the UK and USA. Her early musical influences have resulted in her music creations being a mixture of Reggae and 90's RnB Her first EP entitled 'Acoustic Emotions'[6] was released in June 2013 and closely followed up with an EP in October 2013 called 'Take It Over'[7]

With strong backing from peers like BBC Radio 1's DJ Target[8] Juliette Ashby's music has even appeared on USA television programmes like Mob Wives season 2[9] Single Ladies season 2 http://www.vh1.com/shows/single_ladies/season_2/show_music.jhtml and Basketball Wives season 4.[10]

2014 saw Juliette perform at the legendary SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival in Austin, Texas.

In 2015, Ashby was interviewed in a documentary film, Amy that was released in theatres on 3 July about her late friend Amy Winehouse.

Business

In 2009 together with her sister Jessica Ashby and their long-term partners, Juliette founded JJ's SoulShack in London, a live music event showcasing the wealth of talent around, RnB legends Jon B and Glenn Lewis performed on separate occasions for JJ's SoulShack in 2013 which is held at the Jazz Cafe Camden, London.[11] Other established artistes to perform at JJ's SoulShack over the years are Kwabs, Michael Kiwanuka and Daniel Walker who also forms part of Juliette's band.
