Dato' Haji Kamaruddin Jaafar (born 3 November 1951) is a Malaysian politician and is the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Tumpat constituency in Kelantan. He is a member of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) in the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition before he quit from PAS and joined PKR.[1]
Kamaruddin was a member of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) before switching to PAS in 1999.[2] While a member of UMNO, he was considered a close associate of then Deputy Prime Minister and later Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim,[3] and was held in custody with Anwar under the Internal Security Act.[4] Since switching to PAS, Kamaruddin was elected to the Tumpat seat in the 1999, 2004, 2008 and 2013 elections.[5] For the 2004 election, he was the PAS Secretary-General.[2]
