Karen Margrethe Harup Petersen (November 20, 1924 - July 19, 2009[1]) was a Danish swimmer and Olympic champion. She competed at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, where she received a gold medal in the 100 m backstroke and silver medals in the 400 m freestyle and the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.[2]
World records
Harup set two world records during her career, one in the 4 × 100 yd freestyle relay in 1943, and one in the 3 × 100 m medley relay in 1947.
Awards
She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1975.[3][4]
