Lake Omapere is a small lake in the Northland Region of New Zealand. It is located just to the north of the town of Kaikohe.
The lake is five km in length and covers 14 km², but only two to three metres deep at its deepest point. The Lake Omapere Restoration and Management Project aims to develop and implement a voluntary lake management strategy that will work towards improving the health of the lake and help assist the Lake Omapere Trustees in their role as Kaitiakitanga.[1]
In May 1845 a battle occurred during the Flagstaff War at the pā of Hone Heke at Puketutu (Te Mawhe Pā) on the shores of Lake Omapere.[2]
