History

Linden was established in the 19th century and named after the Linden tree.[6] Downtown centers around the intersection of Broad and Bridge streets, where small shops, parlors, and restaurants line the streets.

On May 18, 2007, a fire destroyed a block of businesses on Broad Street.[7] The fire devastated many citizens who cherished the historic feel of the city. However, on November 3, 2008, the LaFontaine family purchased the vacant space.[7] As of 2011, the LaFontaine family no longer plans to develop the land and it is currently for sale.
