The Mid-Atlantic Region's participation in the Little League World Series dates back to 1957, when it was known as the East Region. However, when the LLWS doubled in size from 8 to 16 teams in 2001, with the number of US teams expanding from 4 to 8, the East Region was split into the New England and Mid-Atlantic Regions.

The Mid-Atlantic Region consists of Washington, D.C. and five Mid-Atlantic states:

Two other states, Virginia and West Virginia, are included in some definitions of the Mid-Atlantic region, but for purposes of the Little League World Series are included in the Southeast region.

References

  1. The Rolando Paulino LL was forced to forfeit all its wins in the tournament (as well as in the 2001 Little League World Series) due to the Danny Almonte controversy.
  2. Due to a clerical error by the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, Little League International did not allow Washington, D.C. to have a state tournament, nor an entrant into the regional tournament.
