Love Theme from "Romeo and Juliet" (A Time for Us) is the 30th original studio album released by the singer Johnny Mathis. It was his fourth original studio album for Columbia Records during his second period with the label which began in 1967.
Overview
The album is representative of Mathis' album output at this time which found him recording cover versions of contemporary song hits combined with popular film themes of the day such as the title song and a number of tunes from Broadway musicals.

Billboard Charts
The album peaked at #52 on the Billboard album chart, Mathis' 36th album to place on the chart.[1] Mathis also enjoyed two hit singles from this album: "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" reached #35 on the Adult Contemporary Chart while the title track reached #8 on the same chart. The latter song also reached #96 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[2]
Highlights
Two popular movie themes are included on the album. The title track, from the 1968 Franco Zeffirelli directed film, was a #1 instrumental hit for Henry Mancini while "The Windmills of Your Mind" was the Academy Award winning song for 1968 from the film The Thomas Crown Affair. From Broadway, Mathis adds another Burt Bacharach song to his recorded repertoire with "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" from the show Promises, Promises while the landmark show Hair included the songs "Aquarius" and "Let the Sunshine In". As a medley, these two songs had been a hit for The 5th Dimension though Mathis while also performing them as a medley does so in reverse order.
Of the song hits that Mathis covers on this album, two are especially notable. "Didn't We" is another song composed by Jimmy Webb recorded by Mathis who had included the composer's work on his previous two studio album. It has become a standard with recordings by everyone from Richard Harris to Liza Minnelli and Frank Sinatra while "Yesterday When I Was Young" by Charles Aznavour has achieved similar status being a 1969 hit for country artist Roy Clark. Its dramatic lyrics have been interpreted over the years by singers such as Shirley Bassey and Lena Horne.
