Billboard Album Chart
This was Mathis' 24th consecutive charting album peaking at #75 on the Billboard album chart in its original release.[1] As such, it holds the distinction of being his lowest charting original album to this point.
Highlights
Of the songs on the album, three come from Broadway musicals and two from Disney films. From Broadway, Mathis continues his recorded exploration of the score of "Kismet" with the moody "Sands of Time" while the title song of the exotic Harold Arlen/Truman Capote show House of Flowers is included. He also revists the score of Camelot with its title tune. From the scores of two classic Disney animated films come the title song of Alice in Wonderland, while the Academy Award-winning song for 1940, "When You Wish Upon a Star", is from Pinnochio.
Standards on the album include "Beyond the Sea", a hit for Bobby Darin, "Shangri-la" (recorded by both Vic Damone and Peggy Lee), "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows", and a tour-de-force performance of "Beyond the Blue Horizon" featuring the rarely heard verse.
