Mehmunpur

Mehmunpur Rajgan is a village near Jatlan, Mirpur District, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.

The village is situated between Jhelum River and the Upper Jhelum Canal,15 km from Mirpur city. The descendants of village belong to Panwar (Parmara)) Sohlan clan of Rajputs. There are about 25 houses in the village resided by people descendant of one person Raja Kamal Khan.The village is considered as a very fertile village so for as its intelligent residents are concerned working in every walk of life. The two Zaildars; Raja Sajjawal Khan (zaildar and assessor) and Raja Bashir Ahmed Khan( ex chairman union council Nawan Garan) made this village known by whole the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Raja Bashir Ahmed Khan was youngest Zaildar of State of Jammu and Kashmir celebrating this position in age of 24 yrs only. Raja Sajjawal Khan had very close connections with the royal families and bureaucracy during Dogra rule and that is why the royal class and famous political persons of that time used to visit Mehmunpur frequently. Raja sahib was popular for his hospitality in the area. Mehmunpur was famous for its Army Personnel in past including Subadar Raja Muhammad Zaman Khan(late) who died in Egypt in WW1, Subadar Raja Allah dita Khan(late)who was activist during Khilafat Movement after leaving British Indian Army after WW1, Raja Nazir Ahmed Khan(late),Subadar Raja Najabat Ali Khan(late), Raja Sultan Akbar Ali Khan (Late) who was Member District Council and President Muslim Conference District Mirpur, Jamadar Raja Manzoor Khan, Subadar Raja Bostan Khan,Subadar Raja Masood Ahmed Khan etc. The village is now famous for its Lawyers. There are five Lawyers in this village at the same time Including Raja Tahir Bostan Advocate (President Jammu Kashmir Peoples National Party UK), Raja Khalid Farooq Khan Advocate, Raja Saqlain Khan Advocate, Raja Ghalib Bostan Khan Advocate, Raja Asif Masood Advocate (now serving as Prosecuting Inspector in Azad Kashmir Police). Mr.Ali Raza Faisal is Colonel in Pak Army and has served as Asst.Director Anti Narcotics Force. Hassan Raza of Mehmunpur is software Engineer. Other Member of the Village are Raja Rehmat Khan,Raja Shabbir Ahmed Khan (late), Raja Ifzal Mehdi Khan, Raja Ejaz Ahmed Khan (founder member and first ticket holder of PPP Azad Kashmir LA4 Mirpur), Raja Ayub Khan and Raja Zaman Abbas Khan who is founder president of democratic teacher organisation Azad Kashmir, Raja Saleem Shahid Khan(London)and Raja Khayyam Shahid Khan BA, LLM (London).

Demography

According to 1998 census of Pakistan, its population was 232. There are about 25 houses in and most village residents are the descendants of Raja Kamal Khan. All of the population belongs to the Panwar Sohlan Rajput tribe.
