New Palestine (magazine)
The New Palestine magazine was founded in December 1919.[1][2] beginning as a weekly[3][4] then as bi-weekly, published in New York.[4] It was the official organ of the ZOA.[3][5][6]
It was a four-page publication.[2] Its first issue in January 1920 read: "For the Restoration and up-building of a Jewish Palestine."[1] Its managing editor was Isidore Cooperman[5]
It evolved from The Maccabean-magazine by Louis Lipsky[7] and Meyer Wolf Weisgal.[8][9]
Contributors included among others, author Menachem Ribalow (1895 – 1953) who published numerous articles in New Palestine,[10] philanthropist, businessman, Jacob Henry Schiff (born Jakob Heinrich Schiff; January 10, 1847 – September 25, 1920).[11]
In 1934, Samuel Caplan was editor.[12]
Ludwig Lewisohn (May 30, 1882 – December 31, 1955) novelist, literary critic, the drama critic for The Nation and then its associate editor, was its editor,[13] editorial-writer,[5] between 1943-48.[14]
