Ovarense Basquetebol is a team of professional basketball that plays in Ovar, Portugal. The team plays in the LCB. The Ovarense created its section of basketball in 1970, with the initiative of a member entrepreneur, John Gonçalves, but in this period of time managed to assert itself as one of the standards and the inevitable reference method in Portugal.

History

Between 1976–77 and 1978–79, only six years after the team's creation, Ovarense ascended from third to first, on national level, indicating that the team's basketball vocation was strong. The club never fell from division, and the arrival of two Americans at the end of the 80's, gave the team the quality required to raise its level.

D.J. and Mario Elie, a future champion of the NBA, came to Portugal in 1987 and soon led to Ovarense's victory in the national championship, achieved against Benfica.

Since then the team of Ovar has been, with brief lapses, in the top-5 of basketball in our country, gaining several major trophies and winning the domestic League Cup in 1999–2000.
