The Chennai Super Kings (abbreviated as CSK) are a franchise cricket team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Founded in 2008, the team is being captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coached by Stephen Fleming. The team plays its home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Super Kings are the most successful team in the IPL and have won the title twice in succession (2010 and 2011). In 2010, they won the Champions League Twenty20 for the first time and repeated the feat in 2014. The leading run-scorer of the team is Suresh Raina, while the leading wicket-taker is Ravichandran Ashwin. The brand value of the Super Kings in 2012 was estimated at US$75.13 million, making them the most valuable franchise in the IPL.

Fake IPL Player is a blog that started on April 18, 2009, the same time as the second season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. Originally, the blogger wrote anonymously, claiming to be a member of the IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The blog was controversial from the start, giving unflattering nicknames to players, coaches, and owners of KKR and other teams, telling sordid stories, and showing most of them in a very negative light. As the blog rapidly became popular, it was believed to be of a fringe KKR player who was upset at not being part of the core team. The blog worsened an already bad season for KKR, which lost most of their games, had controversies surrounding their coach, John Buchanan, and frequently changed captains, including Sourav Ganguly. The 2009 IPL season took place in South Africa, and two KKR players, Aakash Chopra and Sanjay Bangar, were sent home to India midway through the tournament. This fueled speculation that they were suspected of being the person behind the blog. The team was also rumored to have banned use of laptops by players. The management of the team termed the blog as "poison pen writing of the dirtiest variety", while denying it could have been written by an actual player. The blogger posted a disclaimer saying "All characters appearing in this work (blog) are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental and unintentional."

Kolkata Knight Riders (often abbreviated as KKR) is a cricket franchise representing Kolkata in the Indian Premier League and owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's company Red Chillies Entertainment in partnership with actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta from the Mehta Group. The team is currently captained by Gautam Gambhir and coached by Trevor Bayliss, a former Australian cricketer. The bowling legend, Wasim Akram is the team's bowling consultant and mentor. Sourav Ganguly, who was the team's Icon Player for the first three seasons, captained the side in the first and third seasons of the tournament while Brendon McCullum led the team in the intervening period. The team won its first title in 2012 by defeating defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets at their home ground in Chennai.
The official theme of the team is Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re (We will do it, Fight for it, Win it) and the official colors are purple and gold. The brand value of the Kolkata Knight Riders was estimated at $57.5 million in 2011, ranking third amongst all ten teams. Although the team has gained immense popularity due to its association with celebrity owners, it was surrounded with controversy and poor on-field performance through the first three years of the tournament. The team's performance, however, improved from the fourth season as it qualified for the IPL playoffs and made it to the Champions League Twenty20. They eventually became the IPL champions for the first time in 2012.

The 2011 Indian Premier League season, abbreviated as IPL 4 or the IPL 2011, was the fourth season of the Indian Premier League, the top Twenty20 cricket league in India. The tournament was hosted in India and the opening and closing ceremonies were held in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, the home venue of the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings. The season ran from 8 April to 28 May 2011. This season the number of teams in the league went from eight to ten with the additions of the Pune Warriors India and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
The tournament was won by the Chennai Super Kings for the second successive season, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the final in Chennai, with the winning team's Murali Vijay being named Man of the Match. With this win Chennai Super Kings became the only team to have won the IPL on more than one occasion. Despite Bangalore failing to win the title, one of the team's players, Chris Gayle was named as the tournament's best player. He scored 608 runs in twelve innings – the most in the tournament – as well as picking up eight wickets, having joined the team after the start of the season due to an injury to another overseas player, Dirk Nannes. Mumbai Indians' Lasith Malinga set a new record for most wickets taken within an Indian Premier League season, claiming 28 wickets during the campaign, but Mumbai had to settle for third place in the tournament, having lost to Bangalore in the second qualifier. Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai represented India in the Champions League 2011 tournament in September. The Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Award was again won by the Chennai Super Kings for topping the fair-play table.

Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, also known as MCA Pune International Cricket Centre is a cricket stadium located at Gahunje near Pune, India. It serves as the home stadium for the Indian Premier League team Pune Warriors India and Maharashtra cricket team including headquarters for the Maharashtra Cricket Association.
The stadium features a terrace surrounding the pitch, where spectators can sit. Four stands surround the terrace, accessed via a wide pedestrian concourse, with the gaps between the stands allowing light in and spectators to enjoy the surrounding views. Upper levels include further seating for spectators, a members' pavilion, hospitality boxes, and facilities for broadcasting and press. Parking is provided on surrounding land. Membrane roofs provide shade from the sun. Sahara India Pariwar hosted a grand opening ceremony ahead of their first home match against Kings XI Punjab to inaugurate the new Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune on 8th April 2012, Sunday.

Mumbai Indians, is a franchise cricket team representing the city of Mumbai in the Indian Premier League. The team is one of the eight founding members of the IPL in 2008. Mumbai Indians are currently led by Harbhajan Singh and coached by Robin Singh. They are one of the main teams in the city, together with clubs like the Mumbai cricket team and football club Mumbai FC. The team is owned by India's biggest conglomerate, Reliance Industries, through its 100% subsidiary IndiaWin Sports. Mumbai Indians is ranked No.2 in the IPL with a brand value of $57.13 million in season four of IPL after Chennai Super Kings (who are the no. 1 with brand value of $70 million).

Icon player is a player who can only play for his home city in the competition as the term is used in the context of the Indian Premier League. Each team is assigned at most one icon player. Unlike all the other players initially recruited by teams, the icon players were not bid for in the player auction of 20 February 2008. The salary of each icon player is 15% more than the next highest earner in their team. As of the 2010 season, the clause pertaining to icon players has been removed on account of complaints by franchises with icon players that having these players was a handicap in the player auction.
