- 1899 - Cyclone Mahina dissipated over Far North Queensland, which had previously made landfall at Bathurst Bay as a Category 5 cyclone, killing more than 400 people and a storm surge of 14.6 m (48 ft) was recorded by an eyewitness, the highest storm surge ever recorded.
- 1985 - Cyclone Lindsay (pictured) makes landfall over Broome, Western Australia as a Category 4 severe tropical cyclone; however the JTWC classified it as a tropical storm.
