Development

After a three year absence as a privateer, RAM became a constructor for the first time, with Dave Kelly's RAM March 01 design, The car had a Ford Cosworth DFV engine and a Hewland FGA gearbox. There was partnership with March for the 1983 season. The team hired Chilean driver Eliseo Salazar for 1983.

Racing History

1983: RAM March 01

The RAM March 01 made it debut at the 1983 Brazilian Grand Prix and Salazar finished 14th,[4] The Chilean retied with a broken Gearbox at the 1983 United States West.[5] The French Grand Prix saw RAM enter a second car for Frenchman Jean-Louis Schlesser but he and Salazar failed to qualify,[6] The Chilean then failed to qualify for San Marino, Monaco and Belgium.[7][8][9] Salazar left the team and RAM skipped the Detroit Grand Prix but entered Canada with Jacques Villeneuve, Sr. driving but he failed to qualify.[10] Villeneuve was replaced by Englishman Kenny Acheson but he failed to qualify for the following six Grands Prix's. (Britain,[11] Germany,[12] Austria,[13] Holland,[14] Italy[15] and Europe.)[16] The Englishman qualified for the South African Grand Prix and finished 12th.[17]

The RAM team had scored no World Championship points during the year.

1984: RAM 01

The RAM March 01 was renamed the RAM 01 but was only used in the first two races of 1984 for Englishman Jonathan Palmer to drive because there was only one RAM 02 available for Frenchman Philippe Alliot to drive, The first race of 1984 was the 1984 Brazilian Grand Prix and Palmer finished eighth,[18] At South Africa, The Englishman retired with a broken Gearbox.[19] A second RAM 02 was available for Palmer and the RAM 01 was retired before the Belgian Grand Prix

For the second season running, The RAM team had scored no World Championship points during the year from the RAM 01 and the RAM 02.
