Ramalina is a genus of greenish fruiticose lichens that grow in the form of flattened, strap-like branches.[2]:189 Members of the genus are commonly called strap lichens[2]:189 or cartilage lichens.[3] Apothecia are lecanorine.[2]:189

Lichen spot tests on the cortex are K-, C-, KC+ dark yellow, and P-.[2]:189

It is in the Ramalinaceae and in the suborder Lecanorineae.[4]

Distribution

The genus has a widespread distribution and contains over 240 species.[5]
