Robert Edward Brennan OP STM (29 July 1897 – 17 June 1975), was an American Roman Catholic priest, psychologist, theologian and professor.[lower-alpha 1]

Biography

Robert E. Brennan was born at Lima, Allen County, Ohio, the son of Edward and Bridget O’Brien Brennan.[2]

In 1918, he joined the Dominican Order and continued his studies at the Dominican seminary in Springfield, Kentucky, and at the Catholic University of America. The same year, 1925, that he was ordained to the priesthood he obtained the doctorate in philosophy from Catholic University.[2] After ordination Father Brennan was sent to the Chinese missions where he became prefect of studies in the Dominican schools.

In 1931, he was assigned a position as professor of psychology at Providence College,[2] where he establish the Thomistic Institute in 1937.[2] Brennan was also attached to the Institute of Psychology at the University of Montreal (1942–1946).

In 1958, he translated Chenu's The Scope of the Summa into English.

He died in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio.
