Sassocorvaro is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Pesaro e Urbino in the Italian region Marche, located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) west of Ancona and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Pesaro.
Sassocorvaro borders the following municipalities: Auditore, Lunano, Macerata Feltria, Mercatino Conca, Monte Cerignone, Piandimeleto, Tavoleto, Urbino. The Foglia river flows near the town.

Rotondi's art rescue
For the love of art, he defied the SS and the Republic of Salò. To save Italian art treasures, he tricked the Nazis and risked his life. The hero of this story is Pasquale Rotondi. Born in 1909 in Arpino, he was an art scholar and Urbino’s superintendent of fine art from 1939. The order had come from Rome for him to direct Operation Rescue. He faced the responsibility and the dangers involved in saving the works of art, with great courage. As a result, approximately 10,000 paintings and treasures which derived from the Marches region, Rome, Venice and Milan, were saved.
Lake of Mercatale
Downstream of the town,in Mercatale valley, there is an artificial lake originated by the construction of a dam that blocks the flow of the river Foglia. The dam was built in the fifties . The basin contains about 6 million cubic meters of water and it'is used to irrigate the fields planted with cereals , fruit and vegetables , in favor of all the valley to the far away city of Pesaro 50 km down the sea.
Hidroelectric power plant
The water of the lake is conveyed by gravity in a turbine for the generation of electricity and the dam of Mercatale remains closed throughout the ' year to preserve water in the artificial lake.

An exceptional event in 2011, for several months of prolonged drought, has necessitated the opening of the bulkhead and the purging of the mud and debris that had accumulated in autumn 2011 and winter 2012.
