Sebastian River High School is a co-educational International Baccalaureate high school. It opened August 1994 and was ranked 34th by Newsweek's 1,000 top U.S. High schools.[3] The school is operated by the Indian River County School District.

Campus
Situated on 6.5 acres (2.6 ha) of land, Sebastian River High School is constructed around a central courtyard. Its facilities include a 3000-seat sports stadium, a 1060-seat auditorium, a 1680-seat gymnasium, a state-of-the-art television studio,[4] an aqua lab, low-tech vocational labs, a volleyball field, three practice fields, a baseball field, a softball field, four tennis courts, four basketball courts, a wrestling room, and a cross-county course. It also has 2 separate classroom buildings for the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC). In 2002, a new freshman wing, the V Wing, was added, bringing the number of classrooms to over 140 and making Sebastian River High School the second largest high school in Indian River County. The V Wing, however, does contain classrooms for students in other classes. For this reason, a new Freshman Learning Center was constructed in 2010, housing only freshman students.
Sports and extracurricular activities
Sebastian has many different activities for the student body, available to all students who earn a 2.0 grade point average or higher in their studies.
Sebastian River High School is also home to the first high school girl's varsity Rugby team in the United States. The team won the Florida High School Girls Rugby State Championship in 2011 and the USA Rugby High School Southeastern Championship in 2012.
Sports programs offered by the school include wrestling, American football, Soccer, Baseball, Lacrosse, track and field, basketball, tennis, cross country, rowing, volleyball, softball, and golf, among others.
There are numerous student-run clubs whose purpose is not related to sports, including a drama club, Navy JROTC, Mu Alpha Theta chapter, art club, yearbook club, a Future Business Leaders of America chapter, Interact club, debate club, and many others.
Band
The band program at Sebastian River High School comprises the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Flag and Dance, and Caribbean Steel Pans indoor ensembles. The school also boasts a roughly 250-student Marching Band program, including the Flag Guard and a Percussion Ensemble, consisting of a thirteen-member Drum Line and a Front Ensemble. These bands have received Superior ratings at nearly all district-organized marching and concert bands evaluations that they have attended.
The marching band, in particular, is well known throughout Florida as well as the region as a whole and have won many Grand Champion titles at competitions throughout their home state and elsewhere, including the locally famous Crown Jewel Marching Band Festival, which in 2015 they were named Grand Champion for the sixth consecutive year. The band traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, in order to play at the Peach Bowl, later renamed the Chick-fil-A Bowl. There, the band placed first in the marching category of evaluation, and were named the grand champions of the event. In 2008 and in 2013, the Wind Symphony performed at the Bands of America event in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school was the newest among all of the schools whose bands were invited to the event.
