Siddharth Kannan born on 31 st March 1979[4][5] is one of India’s popular Television and Radio Host, Master of Ceremony,Voice-over professional and a film critic.

Early life and Background

He was born in New Delhi and since his parents V.Kannan and Radha Kannan were company executives, Sid K as he is popularly known as, moved to Kolkata with them and then spent 8 years in Lucknow and finally moved base with his family to Mumbai in 1994. Sid’s parents played tennis themselves and Sid K started playing tennis at the age of 4 and was encouraged by them. He was ranked No.2 in tennis in the under 12 age category in Uttar Pradesh.

Career

Radio

At the age of 14, Siddharth joined Times FM as a Radio Host on 15 March 1994 and become the youngest radio host in the country and entered the Limca Book of Records and this record has not been broken till date.[6] He is known as one of the pioneers of FM radio in India. Sid’s free spirited style of talking,his sense of humour and his versatility made him a youth icon and he started getting a lot of offers to do voice-overs for commercials,television promos and audio visuals.[7] He also became a favorite for a lot brands for hosting live events and became a trendsetter for the way he interacted with the audience and was ahead of his times. In 1997, while at college, he joined Radio Star on 107.1 FM and his show with Cyrus Broacha called ‘Miranda Char Baje Band Baje’ reached iconic status. He started India’s first radio school called ‘Wild on Air’ in 1999. Emirates 2 FM in Dubai syndicated their Hindi shows to him, for whom he hosted and produced shows from Mumbai.[8] He also produced and hosted shows for Rediff Radio on rediff.com. In 2009,He started an A list Bollywood celebrity chat show ‘Meow Starburst’ on Meow 104.8fm.[9] Later called as ‘Oye talkies’ and then re-christened as ‘Bollywood Khul Ke ‘ on Oye 104.8FM [10] Later called as ‘Oye talkies’ and then re-christened as ‘Bollywood Khul Ke ‘ on Oye 104.8FM(a TV Today Nework initiative).[11][12][13] Amitabh Bachchan,Shahrukh Khan,Salman Khan,Aamir Khan,Ranbir Kapoor,Deepika Padukone,Katrina Kaif amongst a host of the others have come on his show and the stars swear by him.This is one of its kind show that has set trends where stars talk candidly with Sid showing a side of them never heard on Indian radio.The show is still airing is and growing from strength to strength.[14]

Television

He hosted his first TV show in 2006 –’Santa and Banta Newz Unlimited’ with renowned singer and rapper Baba Sehgal on Zoom.[15] This show was a smashing success and received acclaim all over the country for the unleashed,spontaneous and endearing humour of the 2 hosts.In 2010,Sid started his next TV show ‘See Taare Mastiii Mein’ –An ‘A list’ celebrity chat show on Mastiii.[16][17] Every big star in the Bollywood Industry has come on his show and he has become a favorite amongst them because of his unique effortless style of making them talk.[18] This show truly stands out because of Sid’s fun quotient and his rapport with stars makes them confess and make a lot of revelations. This show is still going very strong. In 2012,he was the commentator on ‘Ring Ka King’ on Colors produced by Endomol India and backed by Total NonStop Action Wrestling (TNA).Siddharth was praised by wrestling fans and critics all over the world for the energy and viewpoints he brought to the show.[19][20][21] In 2014,he was one of the hosts of Star Sport Pro Kabaddi and in the same year he was the host of the inaugural season of the Champions Tennis League on Sony Six.[22] He received a lot of appreciation on air from tennis stars like Venus Williams, Martina Hingis and Leander Paes. Siddharth ‘s refreshing way of blending sports with entertainment become very popular with the viewers.[23][24][25]

He is the ‘VOICE’ of the India’s premier Bollywood awards ceremony like the IIFA AWARDS (2000-2014), Filmfare Awards, Stardust Awards.[26] He has lent his voice to promos on Zee Network, Sony, Star TV, B4U, UTV Movies besides various Audio Visuals and Commercials for leading agency and brands.Siddharth’s fluency in Hindi, English, Tamil, Urdu and his ability to modulate his voice in so many different ways makes him a sought after voice.

He has hosted events for major brands like Vodafone, Hindustan Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Hero, Ranbaxy, Pepsi,Reliance Life Insurance,Ponds,Tag Heur,ICICI,Standard Chartered,Phillips,Nike etc. He was the host for India’s biggest events like IIFA Stomp(Tampa Bay,Usa),Femina Miss India Delhi,Femina Miss India South,IIFA World Premiere(Tampa bay),IIFA Weekend(Singapore),Ford Supermodel amongst others.

Personal life

Sid K’s parents are retired Corporate executives who play regular tennis as hobby. His elder brother Hrishikesh Kannan,also known as Hrishi K,is a very popular radio host and voice over artist in India and has a wife and a daughter.[30][31][32] Siddharth is married Neha Kannan in 2014 in Chennai and Mumbai.[33][34][35][36] Their wedding had renowned names from Bollywood, sports, politics and the business world and had huge media coverage.[37][38]
