Suzukake no Ki no Michi de... Yaya Kihazukashii Ketsuron no Yō na Mono

"Suzukake no Ki no Michi de 'Kimi no Hohoemi o Yume ni Miru' to Itte Shimattara Bokutachi no Kankei wa Dō Kawatte Shimau no ka, Bokunari ni Nannichi ka Kangaeta Ue de no Yaya Kihazukashii Ketsuron no Yō na Mono" (鈴懸の木の道で「君の微笑みを夢に見る」と言ってしまったら僕たちの関係はどう変わってしまうのか、僕なりに何日か考えた上でのやや気恥ずかしい結論のようなもの?, "Sort of a little bit embarrassing conclusion I came up to after thinking for days about how our relationship would change if while walking along a road of plane trees I said to you, 'I dream of your smile'") is the 34th single by the Japanese idol girl group AKB48. It was released in Japan on December 11, 2013.[1] Due to the length of the title, consisting of 76 characters in Japanese and 210 when romanized, its name has been shortened to "Suzukake Nanchara" (鈴懸なんちゃら?, literally "Plane Tree Something") for the group's performance at the NHK Hall on their weekly show on NHK[2] and in other instances "Suzukake no Ki no Michi de...Yaya Kihazukashii Ketsuron no Yō na Mono" (鈴懸の木の道で...(略)やや気恥ずかしい結論のようなもの?, "Ryaku" (?) is the Japanese marker for an abbreviation or omission).[3] It placed fourth on the year-end Oricon chart, with 1,086,491 copies.[4]

Background

The 16 participants in the recording of the title track were selected by using a rock-paper-scissors tournament held on September 18, 2013 at Nippon Budokan that involved members of AKB48 and its sister groups. After the preliminary rounds determined who would be on the single, the tournament continued with a single-elimination round of 16 to determine who in the group would receive favorable choreography positions and larger roles in the music video. The tournament winner, who received the "center" (choreography center) position, was Jurina Matsui of SKE48.[note 1][1][5]

The song placed 1st at Request Hour Setlist 1035 held in Tokyo Dome City Hall between January 21 & 25, 2015.

Instead releasing a Drama Version, an alternative dance shot version was published on YouTube.

Composition

The title track was composed by Tetsuro Oda. The Japanese title of the single is 76 characters long.[1] It is sung from a boy's perspective.[citation needed]
