Tåsinge was once called Thorsinge or Thorsenge, which in the Danish means "Thor's Bed" or "Thor's Meadow". "Inge" could also mean young, or youngling.

Tåsinge is famous for Valdemars Castle, and was also the setting for the death of Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre.

People who live on Tåsinge used to be referred to as "Tøssinge"
