T. Brian Callister is an internal medicine specialist in Reno, NV, currently serving as the National Medical Director at The LifeCare Family of Hospitals. Much of his work is focused on health care policy and quality improvement in Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospitals.

Education and career
Dr. Callister graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Economics, and received his M.D. from the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.[1] After finishing his residency at UCLA, he went to the Nye Regional Medical Center (ultimately as their chief of staff and chief of medicine), where he also worked as a rural doctor in Tonopah.[2] In 1995, he moved to Reno, where he co-founded the Sierra Hospitalists medical group.[3] He also served as the Chief of the Medical Staff and as a Board Member for Catholic Healthcare West’s St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.[4] In 2004, Dr. Callister was named the National Medical Director for LifeCare Hospitals.[5] A network of 27 hospitals in 10 states, the facilities are focused on long term acute care, the treatment of patients with critical or complex serious conditions that require a lengthy hospital stay averaging 25–30 days.[6][7]
Offices and expert positions
As the Chairman of the Clinical Committee for the Acute Long Term Hospital Association (ALTHA), Dr. Callister led the effort to develop the first nationwide LTAC quality outcomes benchmark study, and he currently serves on the association board.[8][9] He has held office in the Nevada State Medical Association, first as treasurer and later as president.[10][11] He also holds the title of president of the northern Nevada district of the American College of Physicians.[12] He holds positions on the Technical Expert Panels for quality for long-term acute care hospitals and for inpatient rehabilitation facilities at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.[13] He is the Nevada State Chairman for the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Organized Medical Staff Section, and serves on the faculty of the University of Nevada School of Medicine.[14][15]
Awards and honors
In 2011, he was awarded the Volunteerism and Community Service Award by the American College of Physicians.[16] The award is given to doctors actively involved in volunteer service.[17] In 2012, he was nominated by Modern Healthcare as one of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare.[18] He was also selected to speak at the American Hospital Association’s 2012 Leadership Summit.[19]
