Trivia

In 1997, a Japanese side containing a 20-year-old Nakata secured a place at the 1998 World Cup after winning a famous playoff against Iran in the Malaysian border town of Johor Bahru, a short drive from Singapore. A golden goal by Masayuki Okano, set up by Nakata, secured a come-from-behind 3-2 victory in front of a pro-Japan crowd at the iconic Larkin Stadium.[citation needed]
