The Soldiers is a former live half-hour military sitcom which aired on NBC on Satrudays from June 25 to September 3, 1955. It starred Hal March and Tom D'Andrea as United States Army privates, with John Dehner as the captain and Red Pearson as the sergeant. Mickey Rooney guest starred in one segment.[1]
March and D'Andrea, who used their first names as series characters, had previously appeared in these roles on NBC's The Colgate Comedy Hour. In one episode a soldier becomes depressed because he cannot see his wife on their anniversary. He sends her a bus ticket to meet him but has no money left for their meal and celebration. Hal and Tom raise money for him but wind up in jail themselves for doing so.[1]
D'Andrea returned to his role as Jim Gillis on William Bendix's NBC sitcom, The Life of Riley, after the series failed to take root; March became host of CBS' The $64,000 Question.
