First Contact is a science fiction novel by James McLellan, first published in 2019. Set half in the African country of Mauritania, and half far below the Earth at the Gutenberg Discontinuity, the story tells a first contact tale half from the perspective of the alien race made intelligible through the framing device of a English-language history. The majority of the story takes place 29 years after the first events depicted in Cradle of the Sun (38 years before the ending of that story). First Contact is the fourth novel in McLellan's Colony series.
