Valentinian Exposition

Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. The Valentinian Exposition or the Valentinian Exposition with On the Anointing, On Baptism A and B, and On the Eucharist A and B is a gnostic document of the Nag Hammadi Library placed in Codex XI. The document is a study of Valentinian liturgical readings.[1][2]

Content overview

The text derives from five separate texts, which teaches rituals of basic Christianity with gnostic influence.[1]

On the account of the text, details of God the Father restoring the "spiritual seed" into heaven. Also, the unity of the "spiritual seed" and angels in pleroma. Much of the text relates to teach of baptism, redemption of the soul, and bridal chamber.[1]

Manuscripts

The document comprises pages 22–44. The text is in poor condition with half of the text now lost. It is unknown whether the text did have a title or not, if it did, the title is now lost. The work was named by modern scholarly according to its content by placing the remaining content together to produce Valentinain doctrine.[3]
