Casting

Since Volleyball is the pivot in this film,[4] playing this lead role is Mahesh, who played the hero in 'Angadi Theru'. The actor happens to be a Volleyball player in real life too. Actress Thananya, who took a break to complete her medical course after her debut in 'Kunguma Poovum Konjum Puravum', has staged a comeback and been cast in this film and the female lead; "It seemed interesting. So, I took it up and in the meanwhile, I finished my medical studies too," she told the media. Amal plays the second hero[5]

Filming

The press meet of the film was held at hotel Benz Park, T Nagar, Chennai on 9 July 2012.[6] Mahesh, Thananya, director N.V Ramkumar, Ilavarasu, Ganja Karuppu and the movie's technical crew attended the event. The shooting started Nattarasankottai where a temple festival was shot. Volleyball tournaments were filmed for 20 days at Coimbatore. The movie is said to be a realistic portrayal of love and other emotions.[7] One song has been shot in Naatarasankottai with a dance troupe of 5,000 people that performs the festival.[8]

Reception

Milliblog's music review of Veyilodu Vilayadu was mixed; one of the songs, Kaattukadanga puyalena was described to be 'stunningly boring and horrendously sung' although Dhoorathil unnaikkaanum was said to be the only one that works. This soundtrack hasn't accomplished to give Karthik Raja the comeback he achieved in Telugu.'[10] The soundtrack consists of 5 songs.[11]
