Word Power is the debut album by Divine Styler, released in October 23, 1989 on Epic Records. On this album, Divine rhymed about being proud of heritage (highlighted on “It's a Black Thing”) and featured Bilal Bashir (who made later instrumentals for the likes of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Everlast), who later re-released this album in instrumental form in 2005. The album is best known for the songs “Ain't Sayin’ Nothin,” which featured a sample scratch noise similar to the sound used in House of Pain's song “Jump Around”; Cypress Hill's “Insane in the Brain”; and “Freestyler,” which featured samples of James Brown.
