The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University is a center specializing in bioscience infrastructure at Arizona State University. It is currently led by Dr. Raymond DuBois, a recognized physician-scientist and oncology researcher who previously served as Provost and Executive Vice President at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Overview
The Biodesign Institute is spearheading ASU’s innovative application of interdisciplinary use-inspired research that fuses previously separate areas of knowledge. The Institute, which represents Arizona's single largest investment in bioscience research infrastructure, focuses broadly on biomedical and health research, and environmental/sustainability research, and plays a critical role in furthering the research mission of Arizona State University.
The Biodesign Institute is located on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University, a comprehensive multi-campus metropolitan university that is the largest in the U.S. by enrollment. The Institute embodies the guiding principles of the New American University, as defined by Arizona State University President Michael Crow. These principles include an entrepreneurial research culture attractive to scientists and uniquely capable of facilitating collaboration across disciplines and in close cooperation with industry.
Under the leadership of President Crow, ASU is adding one million square feet of new research space to enhance the capabilities of the Institute and drive economic growth in the communities it serves.

Leadership
Raymond DuBois
Raymond DuBois, a renowned physician-scientist with an expertise in translational cancer research, was appointed executive director of the Biodesign Institute on December 1, 2012.
Alan Nelson
Alan Nelson, an entrepreneur and a developer of a number of medical devices, was the executive director of the Biodesign Institute from March 2009 to July 2011.
George Poste
The Institute was formerly led by George Poste, a world-renowned scientist and policy maker with four decades of experience spanning academia, industry and government. Dr. Poste’s singular experience in fostering scientific collaboration has shaped the Institute’s organization and has facilitated recruitment of international-caliber scientists to the Institute.
Charles Arntzen
Charles Arntzen served as the Founding Director of the Biodesign Institute until May, 2003, and as Co-Director of the Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology of that Institute until 2007.
