Summary

Original description: Front roumain allemand, bolchevicks manifestant devant le train de la mission ("The Romanian-German front, Bolsheviks demonstrating in front of the [French] mission [to Romania] train"). The photograph probably shows a town in Moldavia, and the protesters, wearing Russian uniforms, hold up a banner with Cyrillic text "ДА ЗДРАВСТВУЕТЪ ВСЕМИРНЫЙ ПРОЛЕТАРІАТЪ" (Long live the world proletariat); onlookers include medics in Romanian attire. Taking into account absence of leaves on the trees, the photograph is presumably taken in late 1917, not only after the February Revolution stirred revolt among the Russian troops on the Romanian front but likely also after the infamous October Revolution and before 5 January 1918 (Grigorian calendar) Russian orthography reform.
