Summary
Golders Green Crematorium One of the world's most famous crematoria. It was opened in 1902 after the passing of the Act of Parliament 'For the Regulation of burning of human remains and to enable burial authorities to establish crematoria'. It was designed in an Italianate style by one of the leading architects of the time and covers 12 acres of landscaped grounds which represented a move away from the serried ranks of gloomy Victorian tombs to be seen in the likes of Highgate Cemetery. It is completely secular and houses the remains of countless people, including many famous names.
