It was created after considering all available pictures and videos of Jashodaben that I could find. <p>I commissioned this piece from <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://kodamacreativecommissions.tumblr.com/">Kodama Creative</a>. </p> <p>This painting is developed from the following media: </p> <ul> <li>The <i><a href="https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1954843" class="extiw" title="d:Q1954843">The Indian Express</a></i> <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/ahmedabad/i-like-to-read-about-him-modi-i-know-he-will-become-pm/">sketched Jashodaben in February 2014</a> </li> <li> <a href="https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2985356" class="extiw" title="d:Q2985356">NDTV</a> publishes <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://www.ndtv.com/elections-news/jashodaben-named-by-narendra-modi-as-his-wife-prays-for-him-to-become-pm-557031">this photo of the sort which would be shown in a passport</a>. I think this is the most reproduced picture of Jashodaben.</li> <li>A 2009 source reported that "<a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://www.openthemagazine.com/article/nation/i-am-narendra-modi-s-wife">Jashodaben does not like to be photographed as she believes she is not good looking</a>". Her look is as lovely as she is but since there are few pictures available online of her, and since none of them are free for reuse, it was my intent to to develop a good-looking portrait. I encourage her other fans who also think she is good looking to create and share more portraits.</li> <li>I tried to match the jewelry and makeup in the picture with what she wears.</li> <li>Shobhaa De, a commentator on women's issues, made the only comments I have found on Jashodaben's appearance. She said, "<a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://www.mumbaimirror.com/columns/columnists/shobhaa-de/Jashodaben-Superhero/articleshow/45313815.cms">Jashodaben wears a mangalsutra around her neck and sindhoor in the parting of her hair</a>".</li> <li>Sam Panthaky of <a href="https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q40464" class="extiw" title="d:Q40464">Agence France-Presse</a> has taken several nice pictures of Jashodaben. These pictures are reused in many places. <a href="https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16903296" class="extiw" title="d:Q16903296">News.com.au</a>, for example, publishes <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://www.news.com.au/world/indian-prime-minister-narendra-modis-estranged-wife-wants-benefits/story-fndir2ev-1227133982409">two pictures</a> which show the rings on her fingers, her nose jewelry, bindi, sindoor, and glasses. News Express - I am not sure of their affiliation - presented <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQjj8rrTL-c&feature=youtu.be&t=1m45s">a video of Jashodaben walking</a>.</li> <li>This portrait may make her look a bit South Indian, when actually she is <a href="https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1282294" class="extiw" title="d:Q1282294">Gujarati</a>. Her sari is not quite Gujarati, and maybe her skin tone is not either. I am from the United States and the artist is from Poland, so we are not as sensitive to these things as some Indian people might be.</li> <li>In the picture Jashodaben is supposed to be dressed as a typical woman for her place in life and being happy.</li> <li>Pictures cannot please everyone. This likeness of Jashodaben was created with respect and some attention to detail. I hope that everyone likes it and finds it useful.</li> </ul>
