Flag depicting the alleged dynastic Arms of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lascaris" class="extiw" title="en:Lascaris">Lascaris</a> [Laskaris] family (c. 1210), as described in <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://www.euraldic.com/blas_aa.html">Rietstap's Armorial</a>. Originally a noble family of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantinople" class="extiw" title="en:Constantinople">Constantinople</a>, its members fled to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_of_Nicaea" class="extiw" title="en:Empire of Nicaea">Nicaea</a> after the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Crusade" class="extiw" title="en:Fourth Crusade">Fourth Crusade</a>. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_I_Laskaris" class="extiw" title="en:Theodore I Laskaris">Theodore I Laskaris</a> was proclaimed emperor in 1205 and established the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_of_Nicaea" class="extiw" title="en:Empire of Nicaea">Empire of Nicaea</a>. The Laskarids ruled the empire until 1261, when <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_VIII_Palaiologos" class="extiw" title="en:Michael VIII Palaiologos">Michael VIII Palaiologos</a> was proclaimed emperor.
