The building was formerly the college's library; the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoclassical_architecture" class="extiw" title="w:Neoclassical architecture">Classical Revival</a> building was constructed in 1929, and is listed in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places" class="extiw" title="w:National Register of Historic Places">National Register of Historic Places</a>. In front of the building is a life-sized bronze statue of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mari_Sandoz" class="extiw" title="w:Mari Sandoz">Mari Sandoz</a> by George Lundeen; the sculpture stands in a small garden of native <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebraska_Sandhills" class="extiw" title="w:Nebraska Sandhills">Nebraska Sandhills</a> grasses and flowers. Attached to the building on the south is the Chicoine Atrium, built in 2002.
