Summary

The U.S. Navy amphibious aussault ship USS Guam (LPH-9) underway to Kenya. Her crew is forming "KENYA 76" on the flight deck in conjunction with her visit to Mombasa, Kenya for celebration of that nation's independence. In November 1976, Guam departed Norfolk for Kenya, via the Mediterranean. After transiting the Suez Canal on 12 December, Guam launched 13 Hawker Siddley AV-8A Harriers of Marine Attack Squadron 231 to Nairobi, Kenya, for a fly-by celebration of Kenya's 13th year of Independence. The guided missile destroyer USS Claude V. Ricketts (DDG-5) is steaming in company.
