Shizi, Pingtung
Shizi Township[1] (Chinese: 獅子鄉; Hanyu Pinyin: Shīzǐ Xiāng; Tongyong Pinyin: Shihzǐh Siang; Wade–Giles: Shih1-tzu3 Hsiang1; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Sai-chú-hiong or Sai-á-thâu [獅仔頭]; Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: Sṳ̂-é-hiông; Paiwan: Tjakuvukuvuɬ) is a mountain indigenous township in Pingtung County, Taiwan. It is the largest township in the county.

Names
The original Paiwan name for the area was Tjakuvukuvulj (Tjakuvukuvuɬ; historically rendered as Chaobo Obol or 腳歐伯伯). Ethnic Chinese settlers noted a rock outcropping in the shape of a lion's head (Sai-á-thâu-soaⁿ 獅仔頭山, lit. "Lion-head mountain") and named the aboriginal village (hoan-siā 番社) Sai-á-thâu-siā (獅仔頭社, lit. "Lion-head aboriginal village") for it. Under Kuomintang occupation, this became Shīzǐ Xiāng (獅子鄉) though in Taiwanese the name Sai-á-thâu (獅仔頭) is still normally used in spoken contexts.[2]
Geography
The terrain of Shizi is mountainous, as the district is located near Taiwan's Central Mountain Range.

- Nanshi Village (南世村 Mandarin: Nánshì Cūn; Taiwanese: Lâm-sè-chhun) (Paiwan: Nansiku/Tjuladu)
- Neishi Village (內獅村 Mandarin: Nèishī Cūn; Taiwanese: Lāi-sai-chhun) (Paiwan: Kacedas)
- Neiwen Village (內文村 Mandarin: Nèiwén Cūn; Taiwanese: Lāi-bûn-chhun) (Paiwan: Naibun/Tjakuvukuvulj)
- Shizi Village (獅子村 Mandarin: Shīzi Cūn; Taiwanese: Sai-chú-chhun) (Paiwan: Tjaqaciljai)
- Zhukeng Village (竹坑村 Mandarin: Zhúkēng Cūn; Taiwanese: Tek-kheⁿ-chhun) (Paiwan: Tjuruguai)
Economy
Agriculture
Agriculture produce in the township includes mango, bird's-nest fern (shānsū 山蘇) and watermelon.
Tourist attractions
Places of interest in or around Shizi are Shuangliu Forest Recreation Park, the Cultural Objects Museum, Lilongshan and Neiwen Village.
Transportation
Shizi is connected via railway through the TRA South-Link Line. Important stations is Fangshan Station. There are also two highways: Provincial Highway No.1 and Provincial Highway No.9 (South-Link Highway).
