The position, previously known as First Minister (Catalan: Conseller Primer), Chief Advisor (Catalan: Conseller en Cap), Chief Executive Officer (Catalan: Conseller Delegat) and Head of the Executive Board (Catalan: Cap del Consell Executiu), is optional and is appointed by the president of Catalonia.
