Grace Academy is a non-selective co-educational secondary school within the English Academy programme, at Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, West Midlands.
It opened in 2006 and replaced the old Whitesmore School. It is a specialist Business and Enterprise college.
Grace Academy Solihull is constituted as a company and registered charity under English law.[1]
In 2009 the school achieved average results for Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 but only 28% achieved 5 or more GCSEs grade C or above compared to a national average of 47.6%.[2]
Controversy
On 20 August 2013 the school was among those named by The Independent newspaper and the British Humanist Association as adopting a policy similar in wording to the repealed anti-gay legislation Section 28.[3]
Grace Foundation
The school is sponsored by Grace Foundation,[4] a charity whose objects are "to advance for the public benefit education in the United Kingdom by promoting the establishment, maintenance, carrying on, management and development of schools with a Christian ethos and in accordance with Christian principles". Grace Foundation is endowed by Bob Edmiston, entrepreneur and founder of the evangelical international charity Christian Vision, who is a Governor of Grace Academy.
