Zindagi (also known as Zindagi TV and, Zee Zindagi) is an Indian Hindi-Urdu entertainment television channel, owned by the Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL).[6]It also promoted itself as a channel broadcasting short-run programming and as India's only premium Hindi-Urdu entertainment channel, rather than on-going, indefinite serials. [7]. It is the first channel to syndicate content from countries such as Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey.[3][4][8][9] Launched on 23 June 2014, ZEEL invested 1 billion to launch the network.[10]

Its syndicated Pakistani telenovela, Aunn Zara, premiered on 23 June 2014, the day the channel was launched and ended its run on Zindagi on 12 July 2014,[11] thus, making Zindagi the first Hindi general entertainment channel in India, to end a show in 20 days.[12] In early-May 2015, Zindagi for the first time in its history launched two shows of US origin, dubbed in Hindi-Urdu. They were Simply Beautiful, a health and beauty tips show hosted by Roni Proter, and Nirmala's Spice World, a cookery show hosted by Chef Nirmala Narine. [13] The channel also launched its first original Indian production, Shukriya, a reality show, in early-August 2015. Shukriya provides a platform to common people to come on television, share their personal stories, and say 'thank you' to their dear and loved ones.[14][15][16][17] Zindagi also formed a partnership with BIG FM 92.7 for seven weeks, starting on 27 July 2015 (nearly two weeks before Shukriya's launch), to promote Shukriya through the radio using various methods, programmes, and special segments. This promotion on BIG FM spanned across its 24 radio stations based in various cities of India.[18]

Zindagi announced plans to venture into original fiction programming with two programmes, Bhaage Re Mann[19] and Aadhe Adhoore.[20] Zindagi became the first Indian channel to air Pakistani telefilms.[21] Zindagi has also commissioned 6 telefilms each from Pakistan and India film makers for broadcast under the initiative Zeal for Unity[22][23] Zindagi has also become the first Indian GEC to produce theatre productions in India.[24]
