F.C. Internazionale Milano did not manage to claim a second consecutive league title, in spite of signing German star striker Jürgen Klinsmann from Stuttgart to boost the title defence. Finishing third in the league, the main disappointment for Inter was losing out to Malmö FF of Sweden at an early stage of the European Cup.
