The Honda Amaze is a four-door subcompact sedan produced by Honda.[1] It is the sedan version of the Brio. Honda launched the Amaze in India on April 11, 2013 and was developed at Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. located in Bangkok, Thailand. The Amaze is available in petrol and diesel engine.[4]
Production
The Amaze is being manufactured at the company’s facility in Greater Noida, with a localisation level of more than 90%.[5]
The Amaze is Honda's first diesel offering in India. The car is also available with the 1.2 L (73 cu in) L12B i-VTEC petrol engine that is used in the Jazz and Brio hatchbacks.
Apart from being the company’s first diesel car in India, the Amaze is slotted in that lucrative sub 4-meter entry-level sedan segment, where it competes against the Maruti Swift DZire, Tata Indigo eCS, and Hyundai Xcent.[6][7][8] In the Philippines, the Brio Amaze also competes with the Mitsubishi Mirage G4.[1]
Honda provides a new India-specific 1.5 L (92 cu in) diesel engine in the Amaze. This engine gets the i-DTEC moniker and it is a derivative of the new 1.6 L (98 cu in) Civic diesel engine recently launched in Europe. This India-specific derivative was developed around excise/taxation rules which offer a favourable tax regime for cars of sub 4-meter cars with engines of less than 1.5 L (92 cu in) capacity. Honda claims this all-aluminium engine is the lightest diesel engine in its class.[9]
The turbocharger used in the Amaze's 1.5 L (92 cu in) i-DTEC diesel engine was designed and built by Honeywell Turbo Technologies.[10][11]
Variants
The petrol version is available in seven variants and the diesel version is available in five variants.[12]
Honda Car India is to introduce the facelifted version of the Amaze compact sedan, which is to be launched by the end of 2015.[13]
Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), introduced a new CNG trim known as '1.2 S MT Plus' as a fresh addition to its offering in the Indian Car Market.[14]
Sales
The sales figures for the month of February, 2015, were released by Honda Cars India and their compact sedan Amaze was the highest selling model for the Japanese firm. [15]
Pricing
The various fuel trims in Honda Amaze are priced differently. The Diesel trims are priced between Rs. 6,70,035/- to Rs. 8,66,586/-. The Petrol trims of Honda Amaze start at Rs. 5,55,951/-[16]
