KDSK is an AM radio station serving the Albuquerque, New Mexico, market. KDSK broadcasts on 1240 kHz. It broadcasts an Oldies format consisting of approximately 10,000 songs from the 1950s through the 1980s. Hourly news updates from SRN News are featured at the bottom of the hour. This station is simulcast with KDSK-FM out of Grants, New Mexico.

History

The station went on the air as KLTN in 1983. On 1988-09-27, the station changed its call sign to KALY.[1] It had broadcast Spanish-language programming for many years prior to 2003. From 2003 to 2010, it has spent its time as a Radio Disney affiliate, airing a children's music format.

The Walt Disney Company took then KALY, and five other stations slated to be sold, off the air on January 22, 2010.[2][3] KALY went back on the air in December 2010, run by the youngest radio station operator in the USA, Jennifer Smart. She has been on the radio doing technology and family talk shows since she was 6 and has interviewed more celebrities than anyone else her age. She has done video reports from over 400 Red Carpets and other events including Shrek, Pirates 2 - 4, Bee Movie, etc. The JENNiRADIO format is available to other stations across the USA and offers a wider variety of family hits than Radio Disney.[4]

On October 16, 2012, Derek Underhill's KD Radio, Inc. consummated the purchase of KALY at a price of $225,000. The station flipped call letters to KDSK on March 8, 2013.

FM Broadcast

An application to modify a construction permit for a new FM translator station broadcasting on 93.7 as K229CL was filed to give this station an FM signal in Albuquerque.[5] The translator signed on July 12, 2014 at 40 watts from atop Sandia Crest. On March 30, 2015 the translator was upgraded from 40 watts to 250 watts with the antenna pattern directed at the city greatly improving the signal.
