Michael Abbott Jr. (born July 8, 1978) is an American actor.

Life and career

Abbott is a native of Morristown, Tennessee and is a graduate of The University of North Carolina School of the Arts School of Drama. He has appeared in numerous stage productions in New York City, along with productions across the United States in some of the nation's most prestigious regional theatres. He is also a member of the Tony-award-winning The Acting Company, created by John Houseman.

Abbott had a minor uncredited role in the 2001 Academy Award-winning movie A Beautiful Mind. In 2007, he portrayed Cleamon Hayes in the multi-award winning Shotgun Stories.[3] He has also been a voice actor for the character Ralph Stricker in the 2010 video game Red Dead Redemption and its downloadable content (DLC) pack Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. In 2015, Michael guest starred on the NBC television series The Blacklist and the Netflix/Marvel Comic series Daredevil. He is currently producing and co-directing a documentary, titled Acceptable Limits, about the devastating health and environmental effects of an old nuclear fuel processing facility on a small Appalachian community in East Tennessee.

Abbott portrays the character of Pharmer, the lead singer of a Christian heavy metal rock band, in Martha Stephen's 2012 film Pilgrim Song. The film was voted one of the top 10 films of SXSW 2012 and the Best Southern Film of 2012 by Oxford American.

Michael appeared as the bounty hunter James in Jeff Nichol's film Mud. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Paulson, Ray McKinnon, Sam Shepard, and Michael Shannon.

He co-stars as Burt Reynolds' son, Randy Barnes, in the family comedy Elbow Grease written and directed by Jason Shirley. The film will be released in 2015.
