The National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) is a Canadian minor professional men's basketball league, composed of eight teams: four in the Atlantic Division and four in the Central Division. In the 2015–16 season, it will feature a new team based in St. Catharines, the Niagara River Lions. A vast majority of the NBLC's players have played NCAA basketball in the United States, and many previously competed at the Division I level in college.

The NBLC was founded on May of 2011, when three teams from the Premier Basketball League—the Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Mill Rats, and Quebec Kebs—joined a single league. Its first-ever draft, the 2011 NBL Canada draft, took place on August 1, when it was live streamed from the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The event was seen by over 6,000 visitors in a live webcast. Ever since, it has had eight head coaches that had once played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and eleven players that had that experience in the past. Several more teams joined the NBLC, including the defunct Montreal Jazz, Laval Kebs, and Ottawa SkyHawks and the current clubs. Template:/box-footer

Kyle Julius is a retired Canadian professional basketball player and coach who last served as the head coach of the Mississauga Power of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). He is the first player in NBL Canada history to become a coach in the league as well. Sometimes considered one of the country's most talented basketball minds, Julius teaches players tips and gives advice on NorthPoleHoops.com. Standing 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m), he played the guard positions while in his playing career and attended the University of Guelph and Furman University while in college.

As a player, Julius appeared for several professional teams in Europe, including Viola Reggio Calabria and the Roseto Sharks in Italy and Apollon Limassol BC in Cyprus. He retired in 2007, and became a coach because he found himself critiquing his own coaches in college and watching his teammates drill. Julius failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs in his sole season in Mississauga.

Our obligation as the NBL Board, is to the country and our fans first, not to our own teams. It's our job to build a healthy, vibrant league that we can all be proud of.
