Sembakkam is a Municipal town in suburban area of Chennai to the south of the city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Sembakkam had a population of 47700 Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Sembakkam has an average literacy rate of 83%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 80%. In Sembakkam, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Places of interest

Many temples are present in and around the area. The Chandra Mouleeswarar temple in Sembakkam, Guruswamy Nagar is one of the best maintained and must-visit temples in the locality. One must look out for Prathosham celebrations (if not even any other special festivals) if you intend to visit the place.

Sembakkam park is well maintained park with facilities such as library, water fountain, orchids, lawn, shuttle ground, walking path, etc.

Sembakkam is elevated as Municipality in Kancheepuram District.

One of famous temple in sembakkam is Jambulingeswarar temple. Temple of lord shiva and Aghilandeswari amman.

It falls under the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) as notified in 1974. It is located on the Velachery Main Road which has been home to multiple schools and colleges as well as several well known national and international brands. Generally the population on this side have been well educated and peace-loving which has resulted in the area being patronized more for settling down and for kids to have an appropriate atmosphere to grow up.

Sembakkam is well connected to other parts of the city with round the clock bus services and by train from Tambaram. Its proximity to Velachery, Tambaram, and OMR has made it into a more premium locality and one of the hottest places in terms of value appreciation.
