The 1978 Royal Tru-Orange season was the 4th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Off-season transactions
- Acquired Marte Samson and Valerio Delos Santos from Tanduay.
- Signed Rudy Lalota of Manilabank in the MICAA, Leo Paguntalan and Tony Torrente.
- Signed Marlowe Jacutin, Jess Migalbin and Ricardo Dela Pena, all San Miguel players from the MICAA.
Summary
Royal placed sixth in the first conference of the season. In the second conference, they were reinforced by hard-working imports Frank Gugliotta and Larry Williams. RTO were tied with U-Tex and Tanduay on top with five wins and two losses in the first round of eliminations, the Orangemen were almost assured of a semifinals berth until Toyota won its remaining games to virtually eliminated Royal.
