Parliamentary elections were held in Turkmenistan on 11 December 1994.[1] All 50 seats were won by the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the only party registered prior to the elections,[2] with only one of the 50 constituencies being contested. Voter turnout was 99.8%.[3]

Electoral system

Following the promulgation of the 1992 Constitution, the number of MPs was reduced from 175 to 50.[2] A new electoral law was adopted on 13 May 1994, and members of the Assembly were elected in 50 single-member constituencies.[2]

Campaign

The Democratic Party was the only party to contest the elections. Only 54 candidates were proposed for the 50 constituencies, with three failing to be registered. All other candidates withdrew or were disqualified.[2]
