Herbert Lister (1940 in Miles Platting, Manchester – July 2007) was centre-forward for Oldham Athletic A.F.C., and one of the greatest goalscorers in the clubs history, well known for his diving headers. In 1963 he came close to breaking the all-time record for goals in a single game with his six goals against Southport F.C. on Boxing Day. Lister later played for Rochdale A.F.C. and finished his playing career at Stockport County F.C.. After football Lister became a part-time taxi driver in Blackpool. He died in July 2007, at the age of 67, after suffering a heart attack.
