History

The club first entered the Sussex County League in 1923–24 and were called Allen West.[2] At the end of the 1926–27 campaign the club then changed its name to Bexhill.[2] After the war the club changed their name again this time to Bexhill Town Athletic ready for the 1946–47 season in the Sussex County League.[2] That season also saw the club play their first games in the FA Cup making it to the second qualifying round before being knocked out by Bognor Regis Town.[3]

In 1950 the Club merged with local side Bexhill Amateur Athletic club, maintaining the Bexhill Town Athletic name.[4] The club six seasons later then went on to win the Sussex County League and finished runners up in the following season of 1957–58, but won the The Sussex Royal Ulster Rifles Charity Cup.[5] The club would go onto win the league twice more in the 1965–66 campaign and retain the title the following season.[6]

In 1969 the club split from Bexhill Amateur Athletic club and changed their name to Bexhill Town.[4][7] They then spent the next twelve seasons in Division one until the end of the 1980–81 campaign, when they were relegated to Division two after finishing bottom.[8] The club faced further relegation at the end of the 1984–85 campaign to Division Three, but bounced back up at the first attempt as runners-up.[8] Four seasons later the club won Division two and gained promotion to Division one.[8] The club spent four seasons in Division one, but at the end of the 1993–94 campaign were relegated to Division two.[9] Further relegation followed after the 1997–98 competition, and the club was put into Division three.[9]

In 2002 the club merged again with Bexhill Amateur Athletic club and changed their name to Bexhill United.[10] Two seasons later the merger proved successful as the club gained promotion back to Division two.[11] However the next season saw the club finish last in Division Two and relegated to Division Three.[12] At the end of this season the Bexhill Amateur Athletic club once again split from Bexhill.[4]

Under Manager Paul Tuppenney the club came back up to Division Two as runners-up in the 2007–08 season, while competing a double of cup wins by gaining the Division Three Challenge Cup and the Sussex Intermediate Cup.[13] Following another relgation at the endof the 2008–09 season, Bexhill won promotion and returned to Division Two for the 2010–11 season.[14]
